A sticker on the machine opens its schedule

Put a QR sticker on a resource, link it from your phone, and a later scan shows the current booking, the next booking, absences, conflicts and utilization.

A plan lives in Orkyo. The machines live on the shop floor. This release connects the two with a QR sticker. You put a sticker on a resource and link it once. A later scan of the sticker shows the status of that resource on your phone.

Orkyo reads the stickers that you already have: bought label rolls, or asset tags from a vendor. Orkyo does not print codes. Orkyo stores the text of a code exactly, and it never opens a web address that a code contains.

The edit dialog of a resource has a new QR codes section. An Editor selects Scan to link, points the camera at the sticker, and the code is linked. The section lists the linked codes. One resource can have more than one code, for example a replacement sticker. One code names one resource only.

If the code is linked to a different resource, Orkyo asks Move QR code? and names that resource. The link moves only after Move link. Orkyo never moves a link without this confirmation.

Scan a sticker to see the status of the resource

The top bar has a Scan QR code button on every screen size, the phone included. A scan of a linked sticker opens the status of the resource:

  • Now: the booking in progress, or “Not booked”
  • Next: the next booking in the next 30 days
  • Absence: an active absence and its end, or “Available”
  • Conflicts, next 30 days: the conflicts of this resource in its bookings
  • Utilization, last 30 days: the average daily allocation

The status is read-only for all roles, because a scan is usually a question, not a change. An Editor or an Admin also sees an Edit button that opens the edit dialog. The Show status action in the row menu of a resource list opens the same status without a scan.

A scan of a sticker that is not linked yet is the fast way to label a workshop. For an Editor, the Link QR code dialog opens with a resource picker. One scan and one selection link the sticker. A Viewer sees “This QR code is not linked to a resource.”

Turn QR codes off for a resource type

Each resource type has the new setting Can have QR codes, under Configuration → Resource Types. The setting is on for every type. For a type with directory details, for example people, the setting is off.

When the setting is off, the scan actions of that type are not available. Linked codes stay in Orkyo. A scan of such a code shows “Scanning is off for this resource type.” and does not name the resource. The setting is a real off switch.

Camera access

For the camera, Orkyo must open over HTTPS. Orkyo Cloud always does. A Community installation that users reach over plain HTTP shows “Scanning needs HTTPS.” The fix is a TLS reverse proxy in front of the frontend. The operations guide in the release bundle describes it.

If the camera is not available for a different reason, the scanner names the cause: no permission for the site, no camera on the device, or a camera in use by a different application.

Plan edges paint over the timeline bars

On the timeline, a dependency edge between two tasks is now drawn over the bars. Before this release, an edge that crossed a long bar disappeared under it. The bars stay clickable.
