Organization

Organization in the sidebar — “Departments, job titles and the rest of the organization’s shared reference data”. Editors maintain the values here. The shapes those values take are administration, in List definitions.

What is on this page

Every list definition scoped to the organization, one at a time. The selector chooses which one: Departments and Job Titles come with a new workspace, and any organization-scoped definition you add appears beside them.

The values are shared. A job title maintained here is the same job title every person points at, so renaming it once updates every person who holds it.

Editing rows

Add {item} and the row action pencil open the same form, one field per column of the definition. Delete removes the row from the list, and anything that selected it drops the reference.

The department tree

The Departments list carries a Parent column, and it is a reference to another department rather than a typed-in name. The field is a searchable picker of the other departments.

That makes the tree real: a department names exactly one parent, the parent has to exist, and a department cannot be its own ancestor. Orkyo refuses a loop when you save it.

Leave Parent as None for a root department.

Deleting a department clears the Parent cell of every department that pointed at it. Those departments stay, at the root.

Where these values are used

A person’s job title and department are lookup fields into these lists — see Assets. The values also reach search, so a person can be found by their department, and they travel in the workspace export.
