Your own resource types
When the catalog has nothing for what you schedule — define the type yourself and it works like every other.
The type catalog covers the machines and roles a shop usually runs. It will not cover everything. Cars, cameras, licences, moulds, test rigs: if you schedule it, you can define it.
A type you define yourself is not a lesser kind of type. Nothing in Orkyo is built in, so there is no privileged set for yours to sit beside.
Define the type
Configuration → Resource Types → Add Resource Type. Give it a name, a plural, an icon, and decide what resources of the type can do. The full field-by-field reference is Resource types.
The one decision that shapes everything after it: Can be placed on a floorplan.
- Yes — the type is a station. It gets a code, a capacity and a shape, it belongs to its site, and it appears on Stations and on the site plan.
- No — the type is an asset. It is planned by availability and appears on Assets.
Where it shows up
Adding a type costs no navigation. There is no new sidebar entry and no new route: your type appears in the type selector on Stations or Assets, beside every other type of its class.
From there it behaves like any other type:
- Groups — cluster its resources, with shared capabilities.
- Custom fields — record what this kind of thing needs recorded.
- Lists — carry a maintenance log or any other list shape. See List definitions.
- Capabilities — a criterion whose Applies to includes your type can be set on its resources and matched by requests.
- Utilization — filter the board by your type; it has rows like everything else.
- Insights — a utilization card and a trend chart appear for it.
- Requests — tick it under Needs and a picker for it appears.
- Import and export — its own fields travel in their own columns.
A worked shape
A rental company schedules cars. Car is an asset: it moves, and it does not stand on a plan. Fields record the plate, the mileage and the next inspection date. A criterion Trailer hitch marks the cars that have one, and a request needing a hitch validates only against those.
A machine shop schedules a deburring bench the catalog does not list. Bench is a station: it stands in the hall, it takes a shape on the plan, and it holds one job at a time.
