Custom resource types
Beyond spaces, people, and tools — define your own resource types and manage them on their own pages.
Spaces, people, and tools are Orkyo’s built-in resource types — but your operation may schedule cars, cameras, licenses, or anything else. Custom resource types make those first-class: each gets its own sidebar entry and its own management page, with the same reach the built-in pages have.
Where custom types come from
Editors define them in Settings → Resource Types — “The kinds of things your organization manages. Spaces, people, and tools are built in; add your own — cars, cameras, anything…” See Resource types for the definition side: name, key, icon, and description.
The type’s own page
Every active custom type appears in the sidebar under its own name and icon — in the same group as Spaces and People, alongside the built-in Tools — and its page carries the type’s display name and description. Two tabs:
- List — the resources of that type, filterable from the Name column header, with inactive ones badged Inactive.
- Groups — resource groups for that type, exactly as teams work for people and groups work for spaces.
Add {type} — the button is labeled with the type’s name, so it reads Add Car — captures Name, Description, External reference (“Asset tag, serial number, ERP id…”), Allocation Mode (Exclusive or Fractional), and Base Availability (%). Once you have more than one site it also captures a Home Site and an Available for other sites checkbox.
Each row’s action menu carries, again labeled with the type’s name:
- Edit {type}.
- Manage Capabilities — the criterion values this resource carries.
- Manage Absences — periods when it is unavailable.
- Deactivate {type} — retires it without deleting: “It stops appearing in planning. Existing assignments are kept.”
On the Utilization board
An active type also gets its own tab on the Utilization board, with one timeline row per resource showing assignments and consumed availability. The row’s second line is the resource’s description, so a description worth reading at a glance is worth filling in. Auto-scheduling runs per type: open the type’s tab and Auto-schedule proposes resources of that type.
Custom types are real resources
Everything in the planning model applies:
- Criteria can be scoped to a custom type (“Applies to”) and used as capabilities on its resources — see Criteria and capabilities.
- Groups, absences, and assignments work the same as for built-in types.
- Search finds them, and Insights charts a utilization trend for every active type.
Define the type, describe its resources, and schedule against them — no separate workflow to learn.
